Donald Lee Cullman, age 91, of Marysville, died unexpectedly, Monday, February 10, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Marysville. A farmer at heart all his life, he was a 1945 graduate of South High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII and after discharge, attended The Ohio State University. He retired in 1985 from the United States Postal Service where he was stationed at the main post office in Columbus. He was a mail carrier in downtown Columbus for 35 years. He was a member of American Postal Workers Union from 1949-1984. Don was a proponent and lifelong student for the propagation of nut trees, organic gardening, genetics of species to promote yields and conservation of habitat, wetlands and reforestation. He was a member of the Ohio and Indiana and Northern Nut Growers Associations and was awarded the distinguished “The Big Nut” recognition for promoting the nut industry throughout North America. He was also a member of the Ohio Pawpaw Growers Association, the Ohio Farm Bureau. He received the Union County Soil and Water Conservation 2010 Wildlife Habitat Stewardship Award. As a youth, he was a boy scout and received the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Windsor and Community Seniors. He was born April 12, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Stanley Lester and Minnie Louise Dutcher Cullman. He was also preceded in death on December 24, 1996 by his wife, Celestine Frances Schall Cullman, whom he married April 15, 1950; his second wife, Barbara Henry Cullman; and a granddaughter, Melissa Sue Aluisio. He is survived by his children, Kathryn (Gary) Cullman Ogg of Florida, Victoria (William) Cullman Harris of Washington Court House, John (Carla) Cullman of Marysville, Christine Aluisio of Florida, Patricia (Steve) Powell of Bellefontaine, Cheryl (Tim) Cullman Guider of Marysville, James (Jody) Cullman of Marysville, Constance Cullman of Washington D. C., Joseph (Donna) Cullman of Marysville; grandchildren, Nicholas Ogg, Angela (Jim Kelley) Harris, Nicole (Sean) Cronican, Megan Harris, Michael (Shawna) Harris, Jeremy Cullman, Crystal (Matt) Masters, Gena (Kevin Beil) Aluisio, Elexis (Sean) Ritz, Paul (Lisa) Liedtke, Sarah (Tim) Reese, Ryan Powell, Caitlin (Kyle Naperkowski) Cullman, Edik Guider, Graham Guider, Trisha (Heath) Conklin, Nate (Anita) Moffett, Tyler (Ashlee) Cullman, Wes (Leighann) Cullman, Madison (Drew Metzner) Cullman and Aaron (Nicole) Cullman; 26 great-grandchildren; his companion, Nettie Lowry of Ostrander; and many other loving friends. The family will friends 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2020 and 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Underwood Funeral Home. Private interment will be held later at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association or the Ohio Nut Growers Association.
