Donald J. “Jack” McQuown, 76, of Marysville, formerly of Kenton, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at The Gables at Green Pastures following an extended illness. He retired after 43 years as a meat cutter at Krogers. He began his career at the Marysville Kroger grocery, owned by Edgar Lowery, where the Marysville Elks Lodge is presently located. As a head meat cutter, he worked at many Kroger locations throughout central Ohio and because of his expertise, became a preferred butcher by regular customers. He also worked on the side for Bob Smith TV Sales and Service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a former member of the Marysville Jaycees. He enjoyed coin collecting, couponing and travelling. He was an Ohio State Buckeyes fan and especially followed the school’s basketball team. He followed the stock market, enjoyed politics and was a fervent Democrat. He graduated from Kenton High School and also received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University where he was a member of Phi Mu Delta fraternity. He was born March 21, 1936 in Kenton to the late Donald W. “Germany” and Marcella Elizabeth Pfeiffer McQuown. He was also predeceased by his former wife, Helen Smith McQuown; his brother, Ronald McQuown; his sister, Diane Chamberlain; and his step-son, Eric Smith. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Bette “Doodles” Kandel Pfarr McQuown, whom he married June 12, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. Ralph Hershberger; two sons, Donald W. McQuown of Palmer, Alaska and James R. (Joyce) McQuown of Delaware; a step-son, Mike Pfarr of Marion; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Rebecca, Sierra, Daryl, Dustin, Katelyn, Richard, Chelsea, Zachary, Joey, Jamy and Angie; great grandchildren, Sierra, Austin, Ashley, Morgan, Zach, Kyle, Makala and Melody; a brother-in-law, Ron Chamberlain of Bellefontaine; a sister-in-law, Sally McQuown of Rushylvania; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon. Rev. Barry Scott will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church building fund.
