Donald Zacharias “Don” Geer, age 96, a lifetime resident of Marysville, died Monday August 6, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living.
Don was employed for over 20 years as an examiner with the State of Ohio Department of Commerce. He was a faithful, lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had been treasurer, served on the finance committee and was a talented 50-year member of the choir. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1939 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business of Administration from Capital University in 1950. Don was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Navy from August 17, 1942 to December 11, 1945. He was a generous, fun-loving man who enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles, singing, and visiting with family and friends.
Don was born December 12, 1921 in Marysville to the late Albert Adam and Clara Zacharias Geer. He was married to Marjorie J. Dean on October 3, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Reverend E.J. Goedeking, and she preceded him in death on November 12, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Nicol, John Frederick Geer and Charles Geer; and grandchildren Jarod Anderson and Rachel Urban.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jayne Geer of DesMoines, Iowa and Sharon Covrett of Lakeview; two sons, Stephen (Darlene) Geer of Raymond and Darold (Jerri) Lough of Hilliard; six grandchildren, Barry Anderson, Kathryn “K.C.” Lough, Patrick (Kelsey) Lough, Hollie (James) Moots, Arwen Thorn and Cassie (Caleb) Prevo; ten great-grandchildren, Brieanna, Jeweliana, Tatum, A.J., Robbie, Calen, Charlie, Miles, Sidney and Sam; a sister-in-law, Jeri Geer of Shelby; and several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Barry Scott officiating and military honors provided by the Union County Honor Guard. At a later date, burial following cremation will take place at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and Brookdale Hospice.
