Donald Austin Bliss, 79, of Marysville, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at The Gables at Green Pastures. He retired after almost 25 years with Westreco where he worked in maintenance. He was a former associate of Eljer Plumbingware in Marysville. He was a 1950 graduate of Chuckery Darby High School and was a member of Unionville Center United Methodist Church. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served during the Korean War. He and his family enjoyed collecting gem stones and rare rocks and designing and crafting belt buckles and jewelry pieces. He also liked to work with stained glass and enjoyed fishing. He was known as an accomplished tenor and sang at many weddings, funerals and in his church choir. He was born July 11, 1932 in Union County to the late Leonard and Emma Frances Henry Bliss. He was also predeceased by his sister, Esther Mathers; half-sisters, Ogreta Bliss and Marcelle Heimlich; his half-brothers, Julius Bliss and Dale Bliss; and his brothers-in-law, James Fenner, Ernest Mathers and Attillio Bobbio. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Miriam Scholl Bliss, whom he married January 10, 1954 in California; his children, Deborah (Richard) Gast of Westerville, Lori Bliss of Marysville and Rodney (Stephanie) Bliss of Hilliard; his granddaughter, Kayla Bliss of Hilliard; his sister, Molly (James) Hidy of Grove City; his sisters-and brothers-in-law, David and Virginia Scholl of Idaho, Ruth and Daniel Schnell of Nebraska, Orlinda Bobbio of California and Betty Jean and James Hulpke of California; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Paul A. Whiteford will officiate and burial will be at Unionville Center Cemetery in Darby Township. Military honors will be provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unionville Center United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
