Richard Carl “Dick” Blumenschein, age 71, of Marysville, died Sunday, August 29, 2021 at his home. He was an associate of Honda of America and was formerly an employee of Wagner Electrical Supply Company. A 1969 graduate of Marysville High School, he was baptized and confirmed his faith as a youngster at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. An outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed his times at Lake Erie. He also cherished Thursday morning breakfasts with his high school classmates. Dick will fondly be remembered for his ornery demeanor with his friends, his classic daily apparel – bib overalls- and love for his cats. He was born March 21, 1950 in Columbus to the late Herbert Carl and Evelyn Mae Journell Blumenschein. He was also predeceased by his longtime loving companion, Lynda Caudill; his sister, Pam Blumenschein; and a brother-in-law, Larry Phelps. He is survived by his sister, Jenny Phelps of Milford Center; his nieces and nephews, Cheri (Chris) Nicol, Lori Lee, Doug (Tricia) Phelps and Brian (Summer) Phelps; his great nephews and nieces, Keagan Carl Nicol, Sydney Mae Nicol, Jenna (Collin) Watson, Jaden Phelps, Brice Phelps, Jaxen Phelps and twins, Reid and Cooper Phelps; and many other relatives and good friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Underwood Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s memory to the Union County Humane Society or ODNR Outdoor Education Passport to Fishing.
