Dawn Hughes, age 65, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Monday, April 29, 2019 at her home. She was a retired MSRN instructor from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing where she was an associate for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Olentangy High School and received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Capital University and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. For several years, she traveled throughout the United States and trained many health care professionals with a simulated medical mannequin. She also worked in home health care for children with special medical needs. She was a longtime member of Shiloh Chapel Evangelical Friends Church where she taught preschool Sunday school and frequently sang solos during worship. She loved reading, watching movies, Star Trek and collecting owl figurines. She also enjoyed cats and liked entering radio trivia contests. With her compassion for children, she was known by those who loved her as a “kid at heart.” She was born January 14, 1954 in Columbus to the late Russell David and Marvine Caudy Hughes, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Daniel Scholze. She is survived by her siblings, Rory Russell (Anita Sue) Hughes of Marysville, Tamarah Scholze of Winter, Wisconsin, Russlyn (Gary) Phelps of Bellefontaine and Christina (Tom) Abfall of Milford Center; her nephews and nieces, Alex Hughes, Michele Phelps, Jesse Phelps, Mysticole Starr, Talitha (Wade) Fulk; her great-nieces and nephews, Sterling, Noah, Ava and Lana; and many other relatives including, an aunt, Pauline Morgan of Dublin and a cousin Marlene Immel of Columbus. Rev. Jim Davis will officiate funeral services to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Shiloh Chapel Evangelical Friends Church. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment of her ashes will take place 12 noon Friday at Muhlenberg Township Cemetery in Darbyville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Chapel Friends Church.
