Craig A. Nicol, age 49, of Marysville, died peacefully Thursday, June 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A police officer for over 25 years, he retired from the Marysville Division of Police due to health complications. With Marysville, he served on the SWAT Team and helped create the city’s police motorcycle unit. He also formerly served with the Wilmington Police Department and Village of Plain City. A 1991 graduate of Marysville High School, he was involved in 4-H since his childhood. He continued to attend Camp Clifton annually where he was the Dean of Men. Craig was a life member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed his faith, and attended St. John’s school. He received a criminal justice associate’s degree from Ohio University. He was a member of Marysville Lodge No. 1130 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and National Campers and Hikers Association (NCHA). With his approachable nature and friendly demeanor, he truly “never knew a stranger” and seemed to have friends in every state of the nation. He played guitar and the drums, participated in Cross Fit, played sand volleyball and was an avid Pink Floyd fan. Craig was proud to be a police officer and was honored to protect his town. Above all, he focused his very being on his three children. He was born February 21, 1973 in Columbus. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lavern “Weiner” and Thelma Nicol and Francis “Bill” Golden; his childhood best friend, Stephen Gruenbaum; and Donnie Farquhar. He is survived by his children, Ciera (Phillip) Craig, Dylan Nicol and Karlee Nicol; his grandson, Wade Craig; his parents, Ken and Donna Nicol of Marysville; his grandmother, Dorothy Golden; his siblings, Michelle Nicol and Jennifer (Chris) Dickerson, both of Marysville, Donnie Farquhar, Jr., Mary Brohard, Amanda (Mike) Farquhar-Knieriemen, Kyle Farquhar, Ashley Farquhar, John Farquhar, all of Florida and LeeAnn (Joe) Adams of Oklahoma; uncles and aunts, Jerry (Ruth) Nicol, Ronnie (Linda) Nicol, Glenn (Dani) Nicol, Ann (David) Ohnsman, Floyd (Phyllis) Golden, Steve (Barb) Golden and Julie Golden (who took him to his first Pink Floyd concert); nieces and nephews, Taylor and Kaden Dickerson, Chase, Emma and Addison Howell, Riley and Sidney Louck, Torie and Michael Knieriemen, Kendra (Darryl) Beebe, Matthew Day and Haley Drew; and many other relatives and friends, including his ex-wife, Tara. The family will receive friends 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home where an Elks memorial tribute will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
