Christel Elly Wriedt Rausch, age 88, of Marysville, died early in the morning of Friday, June 26, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Her spirit now rests in the Lord and her body will rest until the Last Day when, in Christ, she will rise. For several years she lived with, battled, and endured Alzheimer’s Disease. Early this year, she suffered a fall which left her confined in bed. Although life circumstances were unexpected and brought chaos into her journey, they didn’t completely stop her in her tracks. She courageously faced stressful situations and life’s alternative traffic patterns knowing that God was right beside her. Christel was born November 11, 1931 in Eutin, Germany to the late Karl and Frieda Milatz Wriedt. On February 7, 1932 she was born again by water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism at St. Michaelis Church in Germany. On April 14, 1946 she publicly confessed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, renewing her baptismal verse, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal Life.” (John 6:68) and declared her commitment to the Lord’s Church when she was confirmed. On June 9, 1956, Christel was joined in Holy Marriage to Charles O. W. Rausch under the ministry of Pastor Edward Hoeferkamp at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Although a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, she enjoyed attending worship services as she was able led by her grandson at Living Truth and more recently at Living Word in Galena. Christel retired from The O. M. Scott and Sons Company in 1994 after nearly 29 years of service. She began her time there being the German translator. Prior to working at Scotts, she was a waitress at the Dinner Bell Restaurant in Marysville. In addition to her parents, Christel was preceded in death by her brothers, Ludwig and Hans; and her sister and best friend, Anne-Dore Schlünzen. She is survived by her husband, Charles O. W. Rausch; her daughter, Patricia “Patty” (Keith) Hurst of Marysville; her grandchildren, Derrick (Carrie) Hurst, Devon (Christopher) Lawson, Darin (Sarah) Hurst, Daniel Hurst and his fianceé Taylor McCardle and Darragh (Brandt) Huston; her great-grandchildren Matthew, Lucas and Natalie Hurst, AnnaMarie, Skylar and Elly Lawson, Kylee and Hannah Hurst, Remington and Raelynn Hurst and Eddie Anne Huston; a niece, Angelika (Harald) Hübner; a nephew, Kay Uwe (Flo) Schlünzen; great nieces and nephews, Berit, Lennart, and Julia, all residing in Germany; a sister-in-law, Charlene Rausch; a brother-in-law, Arthur (Ruth) Rausch; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Union County Loving Care Hospice, Memorial Hospital Mobile Meals, or Union County Humane Society. Underwood Funeral Home is assisting the family.
