Charles Otto Werner Rausch, age 86, of Marysville, died in the morning of Saturday, June 19, 2021 at his home with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. His family surrounded him on June 14 as his grandson, Rev. Derrick Hurst, performed the rite of Commendation. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Christel Elly (Wriedt) Rausch, on June 26, 2020. For now they are both only asleep. Their spirits both rest in the Lord, and their bodies will rest until the Last Day when, in Christ, they both will be restored to life. Charles pressed through several years with Alzheimer’s Disease. Although the journey was long, he was secure in his faith that God was beside him and was in control. Charles was born June 23, 1934 to the late Arthur J. and Rachel Nicol Rausch. On August 5, 1934 he was born again by water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marysville. On March 21, 1948 he publicly confessed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ using his Confirmation verse, “Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1). On June 9, 1956, Charles was joined in Holy Marriage to Christel E. Wriedt under the ministry of Pastor Edward Hoeferkamp at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Although a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, he attended worship services led by his grandson at Living Truth and more recently at Living Word in Galena. Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War and received an Honorable Discharge as a Sargeant. Following his discharge, he was a truck driver his entire life, driving a milk truck, then driving for North American Van Lines, then Ray Lewis & Son where he retired, and lastly for Forward Air. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita Bridges, Norma and Harold Forry, and Lora and Bill Polk, and his nephews, John McBride and Jim Trevorrow. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia “Patty” (Keith) Hurst of Marysville; his grandchildren, Derrick (Carrie) Hurst, Devon (Christopher) Lawson, Darin (Sarah) Hurst, Daniel Hurst and his fianceé Taylor McCardle and Darragh (Brandt) Huston; his great-grandchildren Matthew, Lucas and Natalie Hurst, AnnaMarie, Skylar and Elly Lawson, Kylee and Hannah Hurst, Remington and Raelynn Hurst and Eddie Anne Huston; his twin sister, Charlene Rausch; his brother, Arthur (Ruth) Rausch; his nephews, Gene (Carol) McBride, Ted (Janice) Rausch, Terry (Lisa) Rausch, Arthur (Kim) Rausch, Jeff Trevorrow; his nieces, Sharon (Jim) Purnell, Sandy McBride, and Julie Guy; and several great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life memorial service for both Charles and Christel will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Pastor Derrick Hurst and Pastor Jack Heino will officiate.
