Charles Eugene “Butch” Metzger, age 80, of Marysville, formerly of Mansfield, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 28, 2021 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was a retired associate of Ritter’s Office Supplies in Mansfield and also was formerly with Galion Manufacturing and Tom Bloor Medical Equipment Company. A 1958 graduate of Galion High School, he was an avid golfer at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Mansfield. For more than 28 years, he served as a Marshal on the 17th hole for the Memorial Tournament in Dublin. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and enjoyed making many trips for almost 20 years with his wife, Janice, to Winter Haven, Florida. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1651 in Marysville and Mansfield Leiderkranz. Known as “quite a storyteller,” he especially cherished being with his family and friends. He was born December 11, 1940 in Galion, Ohio to the late Charles E. and MaeBelle Kahn Metzger. He was also preceded in death by step-brothers, Jon and Jack Clevenger; his father-and mother-in law, Michael and Evelyn Mayer; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Mayer. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice M. Mayer Metzger, whom he married February 1, 1964 in Mansfield; his two daughters, Michele Metzger (Sean) Bennett of Marysville and Nikki (Chuck) Ross of Marysville; two grandchildren, Michael and Olivia Ross; his siblings, Michael Clevenger and Kathy Schwab; and his canine companion, “Kirby.” At Butch’s request, there will be no funeral services.
