Caroline Lunn Ohnsman, age 80, of Marysville, Ohio, died on All-Saints Day, Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Walnut Crossing Assisted Living in Marysville. A retired educator for over 30 years, she was a guidance counselor for 21 years at The Central Ohio Joint Vocational School District (Tolles Technical Center) in Plain City and was a teacher and guidance counselor for ten years for the Marysville Exempted Village Schools. For several years during summer breaks, she worked as a playground director for Marysville Parks and Recreation. She was a former president of the Ohio Vocational Counselors Association.
A 1958 graduate of Murphy High School in Atlanta, GA, Caroline was a graduate of The Ohio State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in English Education in 1962 and a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1970. Since 1962, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville, where she sang in the choir and served as organist since 1990. She also served the church in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher and Elder. During college, she was a member of Indianola Presbyterian Church in Columbus. As a child, she was baptized and confirmed at Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur, GA.
An accomplished keyboardist and organist, she was accompanist for The Ohio State Men’s Glee Club for two years. During the 1970’s and 80’s, she played keyboard for Fred Prentice and the String-a-lings and with Ken Nicol’s Restoration Jazz Band. Caroline also played for square dances with caller Ed Adelsberger and she accompanied many years for community musicals events, church musicals and cantatas and civic fundraisers. She volunteered to lead sing-a-longs on a weekly basis at The Gables at Green Pastures. During the 80’s, she served as interim organist for First Congregational Church of Christ in Marysville, OH.
Aside from her music, she will be most remembered as a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was born July 12, 1940 in Atlanta, GA to the late E.H. and Florence Sutton Lunn. She is survived by three children, David (Ann) Ohnsman of Marysville, Valerie (Paul) Wetzel of Greenville, SC and Alan (Tashi) Ohnsman of Glendale, CA; six grandchildren, Nick, Luke and Jared Ohnsman, Abigail and Andrew Wetzel and Neko Ohnsman; a brother, Edward (Elaine) Lunn of Georgia; two nieces, Stacy (Craig) Ronai and Wendy (Michael) Landry; a nephew, Hal (Kim) Lunn; and many cousins and loving friends.
The family will receive friends 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Underwood Funeral Home. Interment will be held at a later date Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia.
