Betty Jane Johnson Norris, 85, of Marysville, died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Heartland of Marysville surrounded by her loving family. A homemaker, she was a former sales consultant for Singer Sewing Machines. An excellent seamstress, she made her family’s baby clothing and her husband’s shirts, among other designs. During her younger years, she was a ticket clerk at the Avalon Theater downtown Marysville. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and doing word and picture puzzles. She and her husband liked traveling to Amish country. A longtime resident of Milcrest Nursing Home, she regularly attended church services there offered by Pastor Warren Goble. A loving and devoted wife, dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be remembered as an animal lover, especially dogs and birds, and a very skilled whistler. She was known for her contagious humor and fun teasing. She was born December 21, 1928 in Columbus to the late Charles and Deborah Cooksey Johnson and was also predeceased in 2009 by her husband of 60 years, Paul Neal Norris; an infant son, James Paul Norris; a sister, Esther “Peg” McCarty; an infant brother; a half-brother, Robert Poling; and a niece, Geraldine Darling Grove. She is survived by her children, Deborah Root of Marysville, Sharon Kay Dille (Harold “Tommy”) Oman of Border, TX; Becky Wolford of Marysville and Paul “Wayne” (Amy) Norris of Delaware; grandchildren, Clinton (Michelle) Root, Shelly Carter, Christopher (Jill) Root, Rob Wolford and Allison, Nicholas and Emily Norris; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, Sarah and Shane Carter and Kelton Huffman; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Milburn and Bonnie Norris, Maxine Norris and Elizabeth Poling; many nieces and nephews, including Rosemarie Osborne, Larry Grove and Henry Darling; and many other relatives and special friends and neighbors, including Mary Belle Cooley, Lola Brehm and Caroline Andrews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Pastor Warren Goble will officiate and burial will be beside her husband at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to March of Dimes or Union County Humane Society.
