Bernette R. H. Kleiber Nicol, age 83, of Marysville, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at The Bluebird Retirement Community. A career secretary, she retired in 1999 from Westreco after more than 20 years. She was also a former associate of O.M. Scott and Sons. Bernette was a life member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was baptized August 11, 1935 and confirmed her faith April 10, 1949. She served as the church’s secretary for many years during the 1970’s and was involved with many other church activities, including Walther League. In addition to her career, she and her late husband, Loren, owned and operated “Locin Farm,” their family’s Brown Swiss dairy farm. As a youth, she attended St. John’s Lutheran grade school and graduated in 1953 from Union Local High School in Milford Center. She loved golfing, flower gardening, playing cards, bowling and following Ohio State football. She was a devoted grandmother, supporting her grandchildren’s drama and athletic events. She will be remembered for her hard-working happy nature, hospitality, generosity and bright smile. She was born July 15, 1935 in Union County, Ohio to the late Walter and Laura Rausch Kleiber. She was preceded in death on October 16, 2013 by her husband of 53 years, Loren Leo Nicol, whom she married February 9, 1957 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Earl Schlotterback; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Milton and Betty Nicol; and two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosine and Norbert Nicol and Lucille and Ted Stierhoff. Bernette is survived by three children, Jeff (Cheri) Nicol of Marysville, Neil (Marla) Nicol of Marysville and Lori (John Davisson) Reed of Marysville; her grandchildren, Andrew (Melissa) Nicol, Daniel Nicol, Caleb Nicol, Krista Nicol, Nathan Reed, Nicolas (AnnaBrooks) Reed and Jacob Reed; her brother, Ralph (Grayce) Kleiber of Raymond; her sister, Dorothy (Ray) McCarty of Marysville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous friends and church family. The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate and interment will be beside her husband at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran School or St. John’s Lutheran Church carillon fund.
