Alphonso Joseph DeGennaro, 79, of Marysville, formerly Hubbard, died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at The Gables at Green Pastures in Marysville. A contractor, he was a carpenter for 39 years in the Youngstown area and a member of Union Carpenters Local No. 737. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hubbard. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during the Korean War and was stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea. He was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. He was born July 28, 1932 in Youngstown to the late Mauro and Josephine Aragona DeGennaro. He was also predeceased by a sister, Rita Iati and a brother, Conrad DeGennaro. He is survived by his former wife and best friend of 51 years, Antonette Lentine DeGennaro of Milford Center; three sons, Joseph DeGennaro and his fiancée, Deborah Nelson of Huntsville, Chief Master Sergeant David (Myong-Sun) DeGennaro, USAF of Sumnter, SC and Lt. Col. Brian (Cathy) DeGennaro, USAF (Reserves), of Lebanon; a daughter, Anna Marie Fornadel of Milford Center and her fiancé Tom Boysel of Columbus; five grandchildren, Kyle, Mason and Madison DeGennaro and Michael and Marissa Fornadel; a brother, Daniel DeGennaro of Arlington, TX; a sister, Phyllis (Peter) Chila of Canfield; and many extended relatives and good friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. David A. Poliafico will officiate and military honors will follow, provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass beginning at 11 a.m. at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 East Fifth Street, Marysville, Ohio 43040.
