Mildred Lillian Baldwin McGinnis, 97, of Marysville, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at The Gables at Green Pastures. She was a baker at the Plaza Restaurant in Mt. Victory for many years. She was known for making 40 pies and two cakes every day she worked at the restaurant. She also was a cook at Camp Union for many years in northern Union County. The Christian camp was established on many acres of land donated by Mildred and her husband, Nathaniel, in the 1930’s. The interdenominational camp is still in operation serving many churches during the summer for adult programs and childrens’ ministries. She was a longtime member of York McKendree United Methodist Church and attended Marysville Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed fishing and taking trips with her husband to Lake Erie and Minnesota. She also liked crocheting and cooking. She will be most remembered for her kindnesses and hospitality. She was born January 4, 1915 in York Center to the late Clayton and Ethel Stahl Baldwin and was also predeceased by her husband Nathaniel McGinnis; her son, Terry McGinnis; two brothers, Gerald Baldwin and Richard Baldwin; her sister, Kathleen Giles; and nephews, Larry Giles, Rodney Giles and Bill McGinnis. She is survived by a nephew, Garry (Marilyn) Giles of Raymond; a niece, Norma Jean Castanien of Marion; and many other relatives, loving caregivers and special friends. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. Rev. Paul A. Whiteford will officiate and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at York Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Camp Union.
